I have been flying in some form or other since I was eighteen. I served as helicopter aircrew in the Royal Navy, in ASW and SAR roles and as a flight instructor. I have held private and commercial pilot's licences and passed CP at JSHGPGC in Wales in 1994. I started flying paragliders in earnest in 2007 whilst living in Iceland and moved to the UK in 2015. I have just completed my first UK XC and whilst flying in the mercurial conditions in Iceland has helped me deal with windy British hills, I still class myself as a beginner sometimes, particularly when visiting new sites.
I take a keen interest in flight safety and in particular the human factors elements, informed by my experience of military flight. I firmly believe that our greatest challenge - and our greatest opportunity - is to learn from those who have gone before us in other forms of aviation and not repeat their mistakes, whilst adapting their hard-won wisdom to our amazing sport.
