Foot and Mouth Affects Access To Sites

The outbreak of foot and mouth disease has led to farmers having to temporarily restrict access to their land. If the disease spreads this may lead to flyers losing access to more and more sites. The disease was first discovered in the South East of England on Monday but already possible infections have been rumoured in Gloucestershire. Already clubs are being requested to cease flying by farmers, in an attempt to reduce the spread of the this highly contageous disease. This is the first outbreak of the disease in the UK for 20 years, and therefore the first to affect the free flying community.
The Wessex club have issued the following notice as a result of the disease.
The Follets , the owners of Monksdown and Winklebury have kindly asked us not to fly their sites at the present time due to the Foot and Mouth disease precautions .Of course we must respect their wishes so there must be Absolutely No Flying until the precautions are over.
Many thanks Adrian Coombe
Wessex Sites Officer
Be prepared for further notification regarding our other sites.

Please make sure you keep up to date with the current site situation for Avon sites and the sites of any other clubs where you fly. Brent Pullen, Avon Chairman, who formally worked in the agriculture business, asked that people think carefully before moving from site to site. He hoped people would not, for example, fly at Frocester/Selsey then fly at Westbury.
